Our Chapter HistoryCouncil Grove Chapter NSDAR is named for an historical spot near N.W. Tenth Street and the North Canadian River in Oklahoma City. Council Grove was Indian Council Ground in the early 1800s, and in 1858 a trading post was opened nearby.Noteworthy dates for this historical spot include:
Council Grove Chapter, Oklahoma City, OK, was organized on November 9, 1947. This chapter was originally organized with working women in mind. Some of the organizing members lived in the vicinity of Council Grove and selected this name for the chapter.The Chapters 50th Anniversary was celebrated with High Tea on October 25, 1997. Monthly meetings are held on the third Saturday of each month unless otherwise noted, at 2:00 p.m. from September through May. Prospective members are always welcome.As with other chapters of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, our focus is on the preservation of the memory and spirit of the men and women who achieved American independence; to promote the development of an enlightened public opinion; and to foster patriotic citizenship. |
