Chapter History

The Captain Peter Ankeny Chapter, Tulsa, Oklahoma, was organized April 1958 by Mrs. Virginia Taylor Zink, Organizing Regent.

The Chapter was named in honor of Captain Peter Ankeny, a revolutionary figure and an ancestor of Mrs. Zink. Captain Peter Ankeny served in the 5th Company, Bedford County, Pennsylvania, militia and because of his investments in land was in a position to assist our government financially, as well as by actually serving on the frontier.

By the end of the first year, the Chapter had sponsored a chapter of Children of the American Revolution, which was introduced in February, 1959. The CAR Chapter was named "The Three Forks Society", for the confluence of the Arkansas, Verdigris, and the Grand Rivers, a scene of activity since the earliest days of Oklahoma. The famous Texas Road crossed the state at this point and the Creek and Osage Indian Agencies were located there.

The Captain Peter Ankeny Chapter has continued to be very active and supports the NSDAR motto "God, Home & Country" by participation in annual National and State workshops and conferences.

Junior R.O.T.C. Awards, Conservation Awards, Community Service Awards, Outstanding State Teacher of American History Award and superior recognition for Yearbooks and Scrapbooks are only a few of the accomplishments of the Chapter.

The Flag of the United States of America, after having flown over the Nation's Capitol, is a welcomed patriotic donation to places like Tulsa Public Schools, the Tulsa Boys' Home and the Junior League of Tulsa.

The Chapter welcomes all inquiries and will proudly assist prospective members with the NSDAR application and help find the best chapter for their membership. We encourage all prospective members to visit our meetings to discover if they would be interested in joining.
