Service to Veterans

Each year in December, Malcolm Hunter hosts a Christmas Party for the veterans living at the Norman Veterans Center. We provide cookies, candy and other finger foods for the holiday season, along with gifts of socks, decks of cards, writing paper and envelopes, personal items, and other items that might be used by the veterans.

We also honor the veterans with a little entertainment in the form a

sing-a-long

of

Christmas and Patriotic Songs

Service to Active Servicemen

The chapter is committed to the continuing support of our active duty servicemen. We send them cards, personal items and letters of support.

Wreaths Across America

Malcolm Hunter Chapter is proud to participate in the nationwide program to lay

Christmas wreaths for our fallen soldiers each December.

Jr. Reserve Officers Training Corps (Jr. ROTC)

Malcolm Hunter Chapter sponsors five High School ROTC groups in the Oklahoma City metro area and annually presents a medal to an outstanding cadet at each of the five sponsored schools.

We present a donation check to each of the Commanders for use in their program and hope to add a check for each of the winning cadets this year.

Naturalization

Malcolm Hunter members are represented every January at the Naturalization Ceremony for new citizens, which is held at the United States District Court, Western District of Oklahoma in Oklahoma City.

We are privileged to be a part of this momentous occasion and present each new citizen with an American Flag, along with the Flag Code Booklet, which outlines proper displaying and handling of the Flag of the United States of America.

Constitution Week

The tradition of celebrating Constitution Week was started many years ago by the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). In 1955, the DAR petitioned Congress to set aside September 17-23 annually to be dedicated for the observance of Constitution Week. The resolution was later adopted by the U.S. Congress and signed into Public Law #915, on August 2, 1956, by President Dwight D. Eisenhower. Constitution Week is commemorated September 17 – 23.
